2023 RACE DAY REPORTS

RACE DAY REPORT FOR April 1, 2023.
Written by Noah--New Team Norn participant. As I stepped onto the sailboat, my heart was pounding with excitement and nerves. I had never competed in a race, and the windy conditions in the Puget Sound only added to my anxiety. But as we began to sail, I felt the wind fill the sails and the boat come alive beneath me. I was hooked.
The race was a mix of challenging conditions, with the wind shifting and changing unpredictably. We had to constantly adjust our sails and tactics to stay competitive. At times, it felt like we were flying across the water, and throughout it all, I felt a sense of camaraderie and teamwork with my fellow sailors.
As we crossed the finish line, exhausted but elated, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in what we had accomplished. We may not have won the race, but we had worked together as a team and faced the challenges of the wind and water head-on. I knew then that I had found a new passion, and I couldn't wait to get back out on the water again.”

RACE DAY REPORT FOR March 11. 2023.
The Norn was ready for the sailboat race on Puget Sound, but the young owners knew they needed an extra edge to take on their competitors. So, they brought aboard the old salt Pat Dore, whose tactical skills were legendary among seasoned sailors. As the race began, the Norn sailed smoothly, with Pat Dore's expert advice guiding their every move. The wind was fickle, but the crew fought hard as they dueled it out on the Bainbridge shore, leaving the other boats in their wake. But just when they thought victory was in sight, the wind died down, and the Norn found themselves in a frustrating position - sailing 5 knots speed over water, 0 over ground. It was like running on a treadmill, going nowhere fast. However, the Norn crew didn't give up. They rounded Blake Island in the midst of a pack of boats, and though they were neck-and-neck with their competitors, they refused to be outdone. They set the kite and slicked ahead, pushing themselves to the limit. In the end, it was a nail-bitingly close race, but the Norn kept their cool. They stayed away from the shore, taking advantage of the wind and setting the big, beautiful red rocket kite. With skill and determination, they snuck around the final mark and finished 3rd.But that wasn't the end of the story. Thanks to their impressive performance, the Norn corrected under handicap into 2nd place by less than a minute! The sailnorn team was thrilled with their success, and they celebrated with well-earned beers and rum to warm them up after many hours battling the elements on the water.Overall, it was an unforgettable day on Puget Sound, filled with fierce competition, breathtaking views, and the thrill of the open water.
